Aerial views of All Souls Church

In its inception, All Souls Church was planned small. The acquired space was a mere 50 x 150 feet lot. The aerial photos here show just how small the All Souls campus is. In 1950, this Unitarian church shared a city block with with one family residence. The front of the main building never faced Paredes Line Road; it looked out upon an empty lot. Today, this front entrance is blocked by an eight foot high wall that separates it from the nearby Lone Star National Bank drive through. Aerial views provided by Microsoft Virtual Earth (TM) give clear images of All Souls and it neighbors.

Bird's eye view 1 - All Souls from West to East. This is the 'front' view from Paredes Line Road. Note the asphalt parking spaces to the right of the church. This picture was taken before Lone Star National Bank built a drive through annex in the same space. Note also the size of the Batsell building on the left. This building is more than ten times the size of the All Souls sanctuary. Three of the large trees seen in this image are now gone. High winds took down two mesquite trees in the patio space and one hackberry to the rear of Von Stilli Hall.

Bird's eye view 2 - All Sous from South to North. This photo shows the bank drive through just South of the church. The picture provides a good representation of the interior patio of All Souls.
The Batsell Building is just above the church.

Bird's eye view 3 - All Souls from above looking toward the South. In this view the parking space that would be home to Lone Star Bank is more clearly defined. Only a trash dumpster occupies the space. The large trees on the All Souls site are also clearly shown.

Finally, view 4 - All Souls from the back, looking West over Paredes Line Road. This picture best shows how the church is hemmed in by its neighbors. Access to the church site is limited to Paredes Line Road (front) and the paved alley (rear). This picture was taken after the two mesquite trees in the patio area were taken down by high winds. The bank parking spaces in the lower left provide adequate parking for All Souls' Sunday services.
